"Making Peace"
Shedhalle, Zurich, 2003

Whereas in the classical-modern paradigm, peace was understood as absence of war, in today's new global >order< such a distinction disintegrates. We now see a hyper-modern maxim allowing for overlap, even synchronicity: Peace nothing but (global) war against (local, real) wars. / Thus, when war and peace are undergoing an incremental, yet unerring hybridisation, the question arises upon which notion of peace an authentic pacifism today should rest. / Artists, video activists and theorists trace a paradigmatic shift in peace thinking and raise questions about how ordinary, peace-loving people can engage global and local power and pose alternatives to dominant political agendas of public security.

"Forgiving: The Feng Shui"
Lofoten, Norway, 2004

The architectural installation at LIAF invited viewers to contemplate forgiveness as it relates to entrenched civil wars like Palestine/Israel, Protestants/Catholics in Northern Ireland or the Arabs and non-Arabs currently unfolding in Sudan. I calculated, keeping in mind the African reconciliation model that after all the rights and wrongs are added in, forgiving may be a constructive course to embark on to arrive at civility. Adding to the appeal of forgiving is not only its connectivity to global, but also local and individual interactions.
